Dahra - Abadan (Perpetuum)

from Mutatis Mutandis by The Eternal Chord

/

about

I chose to work from Perpetuum because I particularly like the sense of space I can feel and hear in the piece. And I thought it would be interesting to bring into it another place and time, in this case, Senegal, via the recording of a kora I did there in February 2015. It was also very important to me to respect the sense of stillness and the very slow evolution of the original piece and that made me go out of my comfort zone.

Instead of being a playing musician I had to be a listening musician, every time I was making a change I had to listen to it back in context to make sure it was right. And that meant play the whole piece from the start and focus on all the details without letting my mind wander off.

A sort of meditative practice.
